MLS Game Summary - Portland at Montreal

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Diego Valeri's second-half strike proved to be the difference on Saturday as the Portland Timbers claimed a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo.

Former Real Salt Lake defender Nat Borchers collected the other tally for Portland, while Valeri's winner came in the 70th minute to give Portland all three points, extending the club's unbeaten streak to a modest two games.

Montreal, meanwhile, collected a goal from Dominic Oduro, but it wasn't enough as the Impact were a tad slow all night trying to overcome their loss to Club America in the CONCACAF Champions League final.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Timbers found the first goal of the day in the 64th minute as Borchers found himself completely unmarked in front of goal to head home from close range.

The Timbers doubled their advantage with 20 minutes to play as Rodney Wallace fought off his defender and slid the ball over to Valeri, who expertly placed his strike into the side netting for a goal in his first start of the season after recovering from a torn ACL.

Montreal responded with a goal almost immediately as Oduro fired home on the volley to pull the home side within a goal.

The Impact sent numbers forward in the driving rain as the clock reached 90 minutes, but the Timbers defense held out to claim an important three points.
