MLS Game Summary - Seattle at Los Angeles

Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Alan Gordon netted the lone goal and Jaime Penedo made 10 saves as the Los Angeles Galaxy earned a 1-0 win over Western Conference rivals Seattle Sounders FC at the StubHub Center.

The Galaxy have been slow starters over the past few season as 2015 is no exception as Bruce Arena's club entered the match looking to snap a two- match winless streak followed defeats to Vancouver and D.C. United.

The hosts opened the scoring with an excellent set-piece in the 23rd minute as Juninho swung a free kick into the box from the right side of the pitch. Omar Gonzalez rose highest to nod it back across the face of goal and Alan Gordon was in position to nod it home at the near post for his 200th career goal in MLS.

The Sounders turned up the pressure after the goal and created several quality scoring chances, but each time Penedo was up to the task and the home side went into the break with the lead.

Seattle continued to pressure the Galaxy and find ways to put plenty of attempts on frame, but Penedo always had an answer to keep the visiting Sounders off the score sheet.

With Clint Dempsey out of action for Seattle, Lamar Neagle got the start for Sigi Schmid's club and he was removed in the 74th minute for veteran forward Chad Barrett.

Seattle had an excellent chance in the 88th when Aaron Kovar sent a long free kick into the box and the second ball fell to Brad Evans, but his attempt flew over the crossbar.

The fourth official's board showed three minutes of added time, but Gordon's goal held up to lift the Galaxy to all three points.
