MLS Game Summary - Toronto FC at Vancouver

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jozy Altidore netted a brace in his Toronto FC debut on Saturday as the Reds opened their 2015 season with a 3-1 win over Canadian rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place.

After another season without a playoff appearance in 2014, Toronto FC spent big money in the offseason on several key players, including Altidore, former Juventus playmaker Sebastian Giovinco and former Ligue 1 star Benoit Cheyrou.

Despite all the money spent, things got off to a rough start for Toronto as it was the Whitecaps that opened the scoring on 19 minutes. Former Portland Timbers defender Pah Modou Kah got the play started with an excellent ball over the top to new striker Octavio Rivero. Rivero took a quick touch to control and passed it calmly into the far corner.

TFC's superstars combined to bring the Reds level on 32 minutes when Giovinco did well to free himself from his mark before sliding a cutting through ball to the feet of Altidore, who rounded Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted and fired it into the empty net.

The visitors then took the lead in the 59th minute as Cheyrou sprayed one down the left flank for Morrow to chase. Morrow got to the ball at the end line and whipped it across the face of goal where Robbie Findley was in the right place at the right time to smash it into the roof of the net.

Altidore completed his double two minutes from time when he beat Ousted with a penalty kick in stoppage time after bring brought down in the box by Kah.

The fourth official's board showed five minutes of added time, but it mattered little as TFC held on to claim all three points in their season opener for the second consecutive season.
