Report: Toronto FC loans Gilberto to Brazilian side Vasco da Gama
Gilberto looks to be going back home.
Toronto FC has reportedly agreed to send the Brazilian striker to Vasco da Gama on a year-long loan with an option to make the transfer permanent come the end of the season, according to the Canadian Press.
Gilberto, 25, was an inevitable casualty of the club's high-profile offseason moves, which saw TFC bring in attackers Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco. The deals, along with the presence of newly minted captain Michael Bradley, left the club with four designated players - one above the league's limit. The deadline to comply with roster regulations is March 1.
As such, the Brazilian was always going to be the odd man out, and Sunday's news seems to confirm what conventional wisdom has told us for quite some time now.
