Toronto FC has made some massive splashes already this offseason, signing Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco to bolster its attack in a significant way.

Now, general manager Tim Bezbatchenko has turned his attention further back on the pitch, to the defense.

The club announced the signing of Polish international defender Damien Perquis on Monday. The 30-year-old joins the Canadian side from Real Betis of Spain's second division, reportedly having terminated his contract earlier this month in order to pave the way for his move to Toronto.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Damien's signing addresses an area we wanted to improve upon this offseason. His experience and leadership both at club and international level will be a welcomed addition to our team," Bezbatchenko said.

Perquis, who began his life as a footballer with French side Troyes and spent the majority of his career with Sochaux - making 161 appearances over four seasons - has earned 13 caps for Poland.
