Reports: Real Salt Lake GM Garth Lagerwey to leave club, join Seattle

Garth Lagerwey will indeed be leaving Real Salt Lake this winter, but contrary to initial reports, he won't be heading to Toronto FC.

Multiple sources say that Lagerwey, one of the most coveted offseason prizes in Major League Soccer this winter, will leave the club to join the reigning Supporters' Shield winners, the Seattle Sounders.

Lagerwey has been with Real Salt Lake since 2007, orchestrating a turnaround that saw the club go from a struggling expansion side to one that has now made seven consecutive post-season appearances.

Under the leadership of Lagerwey and former head coach Jason Kreis, Real Salt Lake captured the 2009 MLS Cup, reached the final in 2013 and also made an appearance in the championship match of the CONCACAF Champions League in 2010-11.

Despite the reports referenced above, a Real Salt Lake spokesperson told MLSsoccer.com on Monday nigh that "Garth Lagerwey is currently our general manager, and it is premature to speculate on what 2015 will bring."
