MLS Game Summary - Toronto FC at New England

Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New England Revolution secured second place in the Eastern Conference on Saturday thanks to a 1-0 defeat of Toronto FC at Gillette Stadium.

Lee Nguyen netted the lone goal of the affair, putting the Revs on 55 points for the season.

The goal came in the 35th minute amid some confusion.

Chris Tierney latched on to a ball played over the top and appeared to be in an offside position when the pass was played. The Toronto defense failed to track back after the assistant referee signaled for offside, but no whistle came and the linesman proceeded to lower his flag. The Revs made the most of the miscommunication as Tierney centered the ball for Nguyen to tuck home from the middle of the box.

The hosts closed out the match to preserve the clean sheet, finishing out the regular season in impressive form.

The Revs head to the playoffs with nine wins from their last 11 league games while Toronto concludes its season in seventh place in the East on 33 points.
