MLS Game Summary - Columbus at New York

Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Schoenfeld scored on either side of the intermission on Sunday as the Columbus Crew rolled to a 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena.

With both teams already wrapping up playoff berths, Sunday's clash was all about potential seeding in the Eastern Conference and trying to break into the top-three and avoiding the knockout round game.

Schoenfeld hit for goals in the 17th and 80th minutes, while Ethan Finlay added a goal in the 34th minute and two assists to help the Crew improve to 49 points and into fourth place.

New York collected a goal from Lloyd Sam in the 58th minute, but suffered its 10th defeat of the season and saw its nine-match home unbeaten streak come to an end to drop to fifth place in the East with one game remaining in the regular season.

Columbus dominated the opening minutes of the match, firing four attempts at goal in the first 10 minutes of play and were rewarded for their good play in the 17th minute when Finlay got free on the right flank and played it across to Schoenfeld. Schoenfeld's first touch let him down, but he remained composed and fired it into the roof of the net.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 34th minute as Finlay got in behind the New York defense with a great through ball from Tony Tchani and calmly slid it past Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles.

New York pulled one back in the 57th minute as Sam corralled a long pass from Dax McCarty on the right side of the field, beat two Columbus defender and goalkeeper Steve Clark to the near post.

Schoenfeld then completed his double in much the same fashion as his first strike. This time he again collected a square pass from Finlay and blasted it home to wrap up all three points in style.
