MLS Game Summary - Toronto FC at New York

Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Red Bull New York inched closer to a postseason berth by cruising to a 3-1 win over Toronto FC at Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

New York was in cruise control for the duration of the first half, grabbing the three goals in the span of 18 minutes.

The first came 26 minutes in as Bradley Wright-Phillips got on the end of Kosuke Kimura's low cross in front of goal and turned the delivery into the back of the net for his 25th goal of the season, bringing the Englishman to within two goals of the single-season scoring record.

New York's lead was extended in the 35th minute when Thierry Henry's cross was batted away by Joe Bendik, but only as far as Ruben Bover. The Spaniard managed to pounce on the loose ball and slot home his first career MLS goal.

Dax McCarty wrapped up a dominant opening period in the 44th minute by directing a scuffed shot from Wright-Phillips into the back of the net from close range.

Toronto managed to pull one back in the 55th minute when Jonathan Osorio turned in Justin Morrow's low cross in front of goal, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation strike.

Nick Hagglund was issued a straight red card four minutes from time to add insult to injury for the Canadian club, which falls six points back of the playoff divide after the Columbus Crew claimed a dramatic win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

New York improves to 47 points on the season to retain fourth place in the Eastern Conference with two matches to play.
