MLS Game Summary - Columbus at New England

Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New England Revolution edged the 10- man Columbus Crew at Gillette Stadium on Saturday to climb up to second place in the Eastern Conference.

Sporting Kansas City had climbed ahead of the Revs in the East table with a draw against D.C. United on Friday, but New England's defeat of Columbus sees the club improve to 48 points to claim sole possession of the runner-up spot behind first-place United.

Lee Nguyen broke the deadlock in the 20th minute of Saturday's clash after collecting a failed clearance from the Crew defense and slotting a cool finish into the side-netting.

The lead, however, lasted just five minutes as Ethan Finlay brought Columbus level moments later. The Crew attacker took a pass from Tony Tchani and eased past Jose Goncalves with a brilliant first touch before slipping a shot past Bobby Shuttleworth.

The two sides remained level until the 67th minute when Chris Tierney's free kick from the left flank was met by Jermaine Jones, who nodded the delivery into the back of the net for the winning goal.

Columbus was left no way back after Waylon Francis attempted to deny a 70th- minute throw-in, resulting in the defender's second yellow card of the match and subsequent ejection.

Columbus remains on 43 points and slips to fifth place in the East after Red Bull New York edged the Houston Dynamo earlier on Saturday.
