MLS Game Summary - Montreal at Columbus

Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Columbus Crew cruised past the Montreal Impact on Saturday, scoring in either half to collect a 2-0 victory at Crew Stadium.

Columbus wasted little time in breaking the deadlock as Ethan Finlay latched on to Wil Trapp's through ball in the second minute and clipped a shot into the upper corner from the right side of the box.

Finlay had a hand in the Crew's second goal of the match as he was fouled in the box by Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare, allowing Federico Higuain to convert on the 58th-minute penalty.

The Impact, who struggled to create much in the way of scoring opportunities, were granted a superb chance to reduce the deficit in second-half stoppage time after Tyson Wahl brought down Issey Nakajima-Farran in the box, but Steve Clark denied Marco Di Vaio on the ensuing penalty attempt to preserve Columbus' clean sheet.

The win puts the Crew on 43 points for the season to lift the club into fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Montreal, meanwhile, sees its struggles continue as the club remains firmly rooted to the foot of the table.
