MLS Game Summary - San Jose at Portland

Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Kalif Alhassan buried a late equalizer as the Portland Timbers rallied from one and two-goal deficits to earn a point in a wild 3-3 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday at Providence Park.

U.S. international Chris Wondolowski scored for San Jose in the 21st and 85th minutes to go with a goal by Cordell Cato which helped the 'Quakes improve to 27 points, but the club is still well out of reach of a playoff spot.

Portland collected the equalizer from Alhassan in the 86th minute along with tallies from defenders Alvas Powell and Liam Ridgewell, while Argentine playmaker Diego Valeri added three assists to help the Timbers climb to 35 points on the season.

San Jose opened the scoring after 21 minutes when Wondolowski smashed one home from close range and Cato doubled the lead three minutes into the second half.

The home side got back into the game in the 54th minute after Powell was left unmarked to knock home a cross from Valeri, and Ridgewell, the former West Bromwich Albion man, made it 2-2 20 minutes later when he smacked home a right-flank cross from Valeri.

Wondolowski sent the home crowd into a stunned silence five minutes from time when he got in between the Portland center backs and nodded a glancing header past Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts off a Shea Salinas cross to give his side the lead.

But the margin was short lived for San Jose as Alhassan banged home the equalizer from close range less than a minutes later to secure a point for his side.
