MLS Game Summary - Colorado at Seattle

Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Clint Dempsey's 52nd-minute goal was enough to propel Seattle Sounders FC to a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids at CenturyLink Field on Saturday.

The result keeps Seattle perched atop the Western Conference, while Colorado has now lost six straight games and continues to fall down the table.

The best chance for either team in the first half fell to Seattle in the 12th minute when Dempsey got into a dangerous position and fired a shot toward goal that was kept out by an important block from the Rapids Thomas Piermayr.

Dempsey broke the deadlock in the 52nd when Marco Pappa whipped in a corner kick that the United States international volleyed home with a well-struck shot that left goalkeeper Joe Nasco with little chance.

Obafemi Martins nearly extended the lead for Seattle in the 58th when he hammered a shot off the crossbar from the top of the penalty area, while Nasco denied his near-post effort in the 73rd.

Nasco kept the Rapids within a goal late in the game with quality stops on both Martins and Dempsey, but Colorado did little to trouble Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei and the hosts held on for three points.
