The CONCACAF Champions League will be won by a Mexican club for the 12th consecutive year.

On Wednesday night at BC Place, the disparity between Liga MX and Major League Soccer was on display once again, as Club Tigres UANL defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 to advance to the CONCACAF Champions League final with a 4-1 victory on aggregate.

Tigres will take on Club Pachuca in a two-legged tie that marks the seventh all-Mexican final in the last nine editions of the CONCACAF Champions League. A club from MLS is yet to win the tournament.

Brek Shea gave Vancouver a glimmer of hope by scoring three minutes into the second leg. But the American rebel exited the pitch five minutes later due to injury, and while the Canadian club enjoyed an impressive first half, Tigres took control of the tie after the interval.

Andre-Pierre Gignac scored a phenomenal goal in the 63rd minute, and Damian Alvarez put the final nail in the Whitecaps' coffin, one-timing a shot past David Ousted in the 84th minute.

Tigres reached the final of the CONCACAF Champions League last year, losing to Club America.

The winner of the CONCACAF Champions League will participate in the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup, taking place in the United Arab Emirates.
