LA Galaxy's Lletget needs foot surgery, out 4-6 months
LA Galaxy midfielder Sebastian Lletget requires surgery to correct a Lisfranc injury to his left foot and will be sidelined for the next four-to-six months as a result, the club announced Tuesday. He suffered the injury - originally believed to be a sprain - during a 6-0 win over Honduras with the U.S. national team.
Lletget picked up the injury early in the match and was replaced by Alejandro Bedoya at the 18-minute mark, ending a night that saw him record his first international goal just five minutes into the match. The U.S. takes on Panama in the second of two World Cup qualifying matches in the current international break, but Lletget was among four players already released home.
A Lisfranc injury is an injury to one or more of the metatarsal bones, usually a fracture of one of the bones on the top of the foot or a torn ligament in the area. While the Galaxy did not give specific details of Lletget's issue, the recovery time frame is still a bitter pill to swallow for fans of the club.
The Galaxy heads north to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.
