Timbers waive forward Jack McInerney
The Portland Timbers have released forward Jack McInerney, the club announced just two days before the start of the 2017 MLS season, citing a need for "cap space for projected additions" and wishing him well in a statement Wednesday.
McInerney joined the Timbers in 2016, making 24 appearances, eight as a starter. He managed to find the back of the net five times but could not retain a spot in Caleb Porter's side for the 2017 campaign.
This closes a fourth MLS chapter for McInerney, who previously played for Columbus Crew SC, the Montreal Impact, and the Philadelphia Union.
The 24-year-old can now shop around a resume that includes a commendable seven seasons in the league. He's amassed 171 regular-season and playoff appearances, scoring 43 goals.
