Peruvian international Yordy Reyna has traded one city with sprawling mountains as a backdrop for another, joining the Vancouver Whitecaps from Austrian league champ Red Bull Salzburg.

The Whitecaps announced the move with a statement on the team's website Monday, adding that the 23-year-old midfielder/forward has agreed to a contract through 2018 with club options for 2019 and 2020.

Acquired with the use of Target Allocation Money, Reyna will occupy an international roster spot and is set to join the Western Conference side pending the completion of an international transfer certificate, visa, and Canadian work permit.

Able to ply his trade in multiple attacking positions, Reyna will add some versatility to Vancouver's ranks.

"He’s flexible in the front four positions," Whitecaps boss Carl Robinson said.

"When he plays regularly and plays with confidence, he scores a number of goals," Robinson added. "We look forward to helping him try to get back to those levels."

After starting his senior career with Peruvian side Alianza Lima, Reyna made the move to Europe in 2013. While at Salzburg, Reyna enjoyed loan spells with RB Leipzig and two lower-tiered Austrian clubs.

Reyna bagged a trio of goals in 22 appearances with Salzburg while also featuring in the Champions and Europa League.

Upon receipt of the necessary paperwork, Reyna will join Robinson and Co. in Wales as part of the club's preseason training. While there, the Whitecaps are scheduled for friendlies against Championship sides Bristol City and Cardiff City.
