Erick Torres will return to Dynamo after Cruz Azul doesn't exercise option

Erick "Cubo" Torres is returning to the northern side of the border.

Torres' loan spell at Cruz Azul ended Saturday, as Los Cementeros elected against exercising their option to complete a full transfer. As a result, the Mexican forward will return to the Houston Dynamo, who confirmed the move on Sunday.

Torres, 23, joined Cruz Azul in September. Matt Jordan, the Dynamo's general manager, was optimistic about the loan spell despite El Cubo's disaster of a 2016 Major League Soccer season, saying: "We feel at this time he will benefit from a fresh environment." However, the player only tallied three appearances, 44 minutes, and one goal with Los Cementeros.

At the international level, Torres was part of Mexico's squad at Rio 2016, where El Tri's gold-medal defense ended in the group stage.
