Predicting landing spots for 4 big-name free agents in MLS

Reuters

Major League Soccer's latest class of free agents features plenty of big-name talent from coast to coast as 37 players look to secure new contracts from within the league or from abroad.

A few players, like Dominic Oduro and Sean Franklin, have opted to re-sign with their previous clubs but here are four free agents who could land somewhere else in 2017:

Clarence Goodson

Last season, Goodson was limited to just a pair of appearances for the San Jose Earthquakes as his season was ended by injury in Week 2. If he manages to return to full health and find his form, the 6-foot-4 center back, 34, could still prove a useful asset to a number of teams' defensive ranks.

Prediction: Joins Minnesota United - the expansion outfit is short on players in multiple positions and could use his experience both on and off the field. As such, Minnesota would likely welcome him even if he isn't immediately healthy.

Sebastien Le Toux

To call Le Toux well-traveled is, perhaps, an understatement. The French winger joined the league with Seattle, then swapped to the Philadelphia Union, Vancouver, the Red Bulls, then Philadelphia once again, only to be traded to the Colorado Rapids midway through 2016. Where next?

Prediction: Philadelphia Union - He's spent six years with the club, and was traded only to make room for Alejandro Bedoya and Charlie Davies; with a bit more wiggle room, the Union would welcome Le Toux back with open arms.

Mike Magee

In 2013, Magee emerged as the league's Most Valuable Player, but three years on, the Chicago native has found himself without a club to call his own. But, he's been in the free agent class before, and at only 32, Magee can still offer his attacking talents to a team looking for a veteran presence up top.

Prediction: San Jose Earthquakes - keeping in tune with his preference for life in California, Magee would offer the club another versatile attacking piece and lessen some of the burden Chris Wondolowski shoulders all by his lonesome.

Marvell Wynne

A 12-year veteran of MLS, Marvell Wynne, 30, still has plenty to offer to a team needing his services, and there are plenty of teams in need of a versatile defender. Operating both as a right full-back and a center-back during his day, Wynne commands plenty of pace and physicality to secure a new team.

Prediction(s): Columbus Crew SC, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls, or Portland Timbers - each is short on central defenders, each will need to acquire at least one, and the Red Bulls, in particular, are familiar with Wynne, having drafted him in 2006 before trading him to Toronto FC in 2007.
