MLS champion Seattle acquires Shipp from Montreal

The freshly minted MLS champions have bolstered their attacking ranks, as the Seattle Sounders announced Thursday the acquisition of Harry Shipp from Montreal in exchange for general allocation money (GAM).

The 25-year-old American midfielder was deemed expendable by the Impact after making only two playoff appearances, coming off the bench on each occasion and logging just 18 minutes in total.

"This trade provides some salary cap flexibility while also allowing us to acquire GAM, which will help us shape our roster moving forward," Impact technical director Adam Braz said.

"We’d like to thank Harry for his contribution both on and off the field. We wish him all the best moving forward."

Shipp, who started 20 matches for Montreal during the regular season, will likely be expected to replace the production of Erik Friberg and Andreas Ivanschitz, two attacking midfielders who won't return to CenturyLink in 2017 after their contracts options weren't exercised.
