San Jose Earthquakes decline Goodson's option, retain Bingham

Kevin Jairaj / USA TODAY Sports

The San Jose Earthquakes announced Friday it will exercise the contract options on six players, while declining options on a further nine players.

Goalkeeper David Bingham, defenders Victor Bernardez, Kip Colvey, and Andres Imperiale, and midfielders Fatai Alashe and Matheus Silva are all set to return to Avaya Stadium for the 2017 season as head coach Dominic Kinnear looks to keep the core of his team in place.

However, change will still be coming to the club as veteran defender Clarence Goodson, goalkeeper Bryan Meredith, midfielders Marc Pelosi and Tommy Thompson, and forwards Chad Barrett, Henok Goitom, Innocent Emerghara, Steven Lenhart, and Mark Sherrod all had their options declined.

That doesn't necessarily mean all nine will depart the club, however, as they could still sign new deals with altered terms ahead of the Dec. 16 Re-Entry Draft.
