FC Dallas' Pareja named MLS Coach of the Year

FC Dallas won the U.S. Open Cup and the MLS Supporters' Shield this season, and while an MLS Cup eluded the Hoops, those accomplishments were good enough for Oscar Pareja to earn the 2016 Coach of the Year award.

Pareja finished with 34 percent of the vote, beating out Colorado Rapids boss Pablo Mastroeni and New York City FC gaffer Patrick Vieira to claim his first Coach of the Year nod.

FC Dallas enjoyed a strong 2016 campaign, finishing first overall in the regular season with a 17-9-8 record. The trophy-laden run ended in the postseason, however, as Dallas failed to oust the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference Semifinals over two legs.

Pareja's work to maintain Dallas' dominant form was made a touch more difficult after the club loaned out its top performing player Fabian Castillo to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.

But Pareja managed to get the most out of his core group, with Mauro Diaz, Maximiliano Urruti, and Matt Hedges guiding the team to regular-season dominance.

Pareja succeeds New York Red Bulls boss Jesse Marsch for the award.
