The LA Galaxy announced Monday the club has appointed Peter Vagenas as its newest general manager, replacing half of Bruce Arena's responsibilities with the team and retaining his old post as vice president of soccer operations.

Vagenas, a player and skipper for the club from 2000-08, will "oversee all soccer activities" for the LA Galaxy and its affiliate teams and academies, but the club is still actively searching for a head coach as Arena held both positions before becoming manager of the U.S. men's national team.

"Peter has been an influential figure in the continued growth of the LA Galaxy both on and off the field for a long period of time," club president Chris Klein said in a statement.

"In each of his roles with this club - team captain, Academy Director and VP of Soccer Operations - he has consistently shown an unparalleled dedication and expertise."
