Colorado Rapids star attacker Shkelzen Gashi has been given the 2016 MLS Goal of the Year award for his Sept. 24 free-kick from 30 yards out, which curved perfectly and left a leaping Vancouver Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted flat on his face.

Gashi beat out New York City FC winger Jack Harrison in the vote - 77 percent to 23 percent - and besting efforts from Matteo Mancosu, Diego Valeri, Jordan Morris, and Quincy Amarikwa.

The strike gave Gashi's team a 3-2 lead, but it proved enough only to earn a solitary point as the match ended 3-3. Now, Gashi can look back at the goal with a new perspective, as it's given him a personal accolade to celebrate.
