A pair of Portland Timbers players issued apologies to the club's supporters after being arrested on DUII charges.

Goalkeeper Jake Gleeson and defender Liam Ridgewell were picked up by police late Monday night following a two-vehicle crash, with police issuing charges for drunken driving, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment, though Ridgewell was charged only with DUII.

Police said Gleeson and Ridgewell were also cited for declining a breathalyzer test and paid $7,500 bail for their respective charges. They face Lake Oswego municipal court proceedings on Nov. 16.

"I am profoundly sorry that I let down a community that has graciously supported not only me, but my teammates as well," Gleeson said, as quoted by ESPN FC.

"I take full responsibility for my behavior and will do whatever is necessary to regain the trust of the Timbers organization, the fans and Major League Soccer."

Ridgewell's attorney, Sean J. Riddell, spoke on behalf of the player in a statement: "My client would like to apologize to the community, the Timbers organization and his family for his recent arrest on the charge of Driving Under the Influence.

"He understands that he is a role model and looks forward to earning back the trust of the community."

The incident and resulting charges came one night after the Portland Timbers failed to qualify for the MLS playoffs in the year after winning the 2015 MLS Cup.
