How does Russia's 2018 World Cup mascot compare to past editions?

FIFA

A day after being selected as the official 2018 World Cup mascot, Zabivaka was introduced to the world.

Zabivaka, a wolf, edged out two other candidates - a tiger and a cat - for the right to become the official mascot for the marquee football tournament in Russia.

The process of choosing the Zabivaka saw Russian school children submit their ideas before the public voted for their favourite.

Zabivaka will make its debut when the FIFA Confederations Cup kicks off in 2017.

But how does Zabivaka stack up against past World Cup mascots?

Here's a look at some of the best and worst mascots throughout the competition's history:

World Cup Willie - England 1966

Footix - France 1998

Fuleco - Brazil 2014

Worst

Naranjito - Spain 1982

Ato, Kaz, and Nik - South Korea/Japan 2002
