Watch: Donovan dances around questions about USMNT return

LA Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan was on "The Dan Patrick Show" on Wednesday, and the veteran host wasted little time pressing the USMNT veteran on his interest in returning to the national team.

Donovan, who recently returned to MLS after nearly two years away from the sport, left the national team under contentious circumstances after manager Jurgen Klinsmann controversially left the former Everton loanee off the roster for the 2014 World Cup.

Klinsmann called it "one of the toughest decisions in (his) coaching career," but conceded he believed "the other guys right now are a little bit ahead of him." At the time, the decision was not well received, as Donovan boasted the most goals, assists, and starts in USMNT history.

Fast forward two years, and Donovan was asked if he has any interest in returning to the national team under Klinsmann:

After dancing around the issue, Donovan admitted that yes he would - but under the right circumstances.

"If I felt I could actually help and contribute? Then yeah, of course (I’d suit up)," the 34-year-old admitted. "That’s a million miles away, I’ve played a total of like 20 minutes now in two years."

Patrick then asked Donovan what his response would be if Klinsmann asked him to be part of the coaching staff. After a pregnant pause rife with tension, Donovan says, "Again, if I felt I was able to contribute, I would consider it..."

There is no more dismissive response than Donovan's.
