Lampard out 3-4 weeks with calf strain

New York City will be without free-scoring midfielder Frank Lampard for the next three-to-four weeks, as the club confirmed the English veteran sustained a "low grade" calf strain against FC Dallas over the weekend.

The club was quick to note, however, the ailment isn't the same one which sidelined the former Chelsea icon for the opening 2 1/2 months of the MLS campaign.

Lampard left Sunday's contest in the 42nd minute, his calf clearly causing him problems as he left the pitch.

"He's a sensible professional," NYCFC manager Patrick Vieira said of the midfielder's decision to leave the match. "He came out because he didn't want to make it worse."

The 38-year-old has been borderline dominant in 2016, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances (15 starts) to help Vieira's side push for top spot in the Eastern Conference.

New York City sits two points adrift of Toronto FC for first place.

Though NYCFC only has four regular-season matches left, the international break in early October should provide enough of a delay to allow Lampard to get back on the pitch prior to the playoffs.
