Toronto FC-Orlando City SC preview

Toronto FC has an eye on the top of MLS's Eastern Conference table on Wednesday when it travels to central Florida for a crucial match with Orlando City SC at Camping World Stadium.

The match also has huge playoff implications for Orlando City, which is tied for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 10 games left to play in the regular season.

Toronto FC has made a charge up the conference table via a six-match undefeated streak that included a 3-1 victory at Philadelphia on Saturday. Toronto (11-7-7, 40 points) is now in second place in the Eastern Conference, a point in back of New York City FC and three points clear of the third-place New York Red Bulls with nine matches left on its schedule.

Sebastian Giovinco scored his 16th goal of the season in Toronto's win at the Union, which was the club's fifth victory in its last six matches.

Giovinco, who is tied for the lead in the MLS Golden Boot standings, has at least a goal and/or an assist in each of the past six matches (since July 23). He has eight goals and four assists in that span and has played a part in 12 of the team's last 15 goals.

Wednesday contest will be the middle match in a stretch of three games in seven days for Toronto.

"We'll approach the game with the goal of coming back to Toronto with three points and has leaders of the Eastern Conference," Toronto coach Greg Vanney said. "There are still a number of games left in the season and we are playing the long game, not the short game, when we go to Orlando."

Orlando City (5-6-13, 28 points) saw its current winless run extended to three games with a second consecutive draw at the Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening. Orlando City has won once in four starts since Jason Kreis was named head coach.

The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Orlando City took the first game in the series 3-2 at home on June 25 when Kaka converted a penalty kick in the 100th minute, matching the latest goal scored in a regulation match in MLS history.

That was Orlando City's first victory in the all-time series. Toronto FC won all three meetings between the clubs in Orlando City's inaugural season in MLS in 2015, outscoring the opposition 11-1.

Orlando City, which has a league-high 13 draws, has outscored Toronto 38-37 this season but has allowed 15 more goals (41-26) in one less match.
