Toronto FC parts ways with Perquis

Reuters

Toronto FC announced Tuesday the club has agreed to mutually terminate the contract of central defender Damien Perquis.

Perquis, 32, joined the club in January 2015 and has since made 38 appearances, scoring two goals and recording two assists in all competitions.

"After speaking with Damien, we have agreed to allow him to pursue other opportunities,” Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a statement. "On behalf of Toronto FC we would like to thank Damien for his contributions to the club and wish him and his family all the best in the future."

His hefty $427,500 per year guaranteed salary coupled with the steady reliability of Eriq Zavaleta meant Perquis had become an expensive option for Greg Vanney.

With the club linked to players like Tosaint Ricketts, it's likely the Reds needed a bit of salary cap room to play with in order to make moves in the summer window.
