Split points seemed to be the order of the day as Orlando City and Toronto FC entered extra time tied 2-2, but a 100th-minute penalty awarded by referee Ismail Elfath and buried by captain Kaka gave the Lions a 3-2 win at the Citrus Bowl.

The late penalty came after the Reds fought back twice, Cyle Larin opening the scoring in the fifth minute before fellow Toronto native Jordan Hamilton equalised with his first career MLS goal.

A 69th-minute injury to goalkeeper Clint Irwin saw Toronto's back up shot-stopper Alex Bono take to the field and Orlando's Adrian Winter took advantage of Toronto's loss, scoring a header on an open goal after Bono was drawn out from his line.

A late Justin Morrow goal, tapped in after Sebastian Giovinco's low, sideways pass beat Joe Bendik, seemed to settle the score, but with eight minutes of added time given as a result of water breaks, the result was not yet secured.

In the 99th minute of play, Drew Moor was adjudged as having pulled Julio Baptista down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot immediately, showing Josh Williams a red card for dissent in the resulting interaction.

Kaka buried the effort, which set a new record in MLS, too:

As such, the Lions took all three points and leapfrogged Toronto in the Eastern Conference standings.
