Nagbe's perfect free kick helps Timbers defeat Whitecaps

Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe scored his first goal of the 2016 MLS season in stunning fashion, smacking home an inch-perfect free kick to wrap up a 4-2 win against the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps.

Billed as one of the league's high-profile derby fixtures for "Rivalry Week," these two Cascadia outfits squared off at Providence Park, with Nagbe scoring the Timbers' fourth goal in a match that had a few questionable officiating decisions, too.

Referee Ted Unkel awarded three penalties - two to Portland, one to Vancouver - leaving head coaches Caleb Porter and Carl Robinson bemused on the sidelines.

Facing a 2-0 deficit at half-time, Kekuta Manneh scored yet another spectacular goal to cut the lead in half.

However, Unkel awarded the Timbers a penalty moments later for an apparent handball on Pa-Modou Kah, despite the replays showing otherwise.

Dairon Asprilla stepped up to the spot and buried the effort before Nagbe added a fourth minutes later. Unkel then awarded a penalty to the Whitecaps, which Pedro Morales finished for his sixth goal of the 2016 campaign.

Tempers boiled over later on, and Unkel gave Kendall Waston a red card for a dangerous tackle with Asprilla despite the fact that the final whistle had already been blown.

As such, Waston will miss the next match he is available for upon returning from the Copa America Centenario.
