New York is very much red.

The New York Red Bulls were unfazed by the test of bitter foes New York City FC in the Hudson River Derby at Yankee Stadium, recording a massive 7-0 win away from home in this heavily hyped rivalry fixture, and tying the record for the highest margin of victory in MLS history.

Captain Dax McCarty got the party started with a header off a corner kick in the first half, before Mike Grella and Bradley Wright-Phillips further punished the Pigeons in ruthless fashion.

Grella - affectionately referred to as Grelladinho in MLS circles for his endless bag of tricks a la Ronaldinho - set up the second by tormenting a pair of NYCFC players out wide before delivering a weighted cross for Wright-Phillips to head home.

Minutes later, Wright-Phillips scored the third goal off a perfectly placed bicycle kick, right at the stroke of half-time.

McCarty replicated his first-half header goal with another in the second half, before youngster Alex Muyl added a fifth before the hour mark. Substitute Gonzalo Veron added a sixth in the 84th minute, before Gideon Baah killed off the Pigeons in the 90th minute with the final goal of an emphatic 7-0 win.

The result equals the largest margin of victory in MLS history, tied with LA Galaxy's 8-1 win over the Dallas Burn in 1998, and the Chicago Fire's 7-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards in 2001.
