Toronto FC drops points in home draw with New York City FC

Looking to bounce back after an underwhelming defeat to Canadian rivals the Vancouver Whitecaps last Saturday, Toronto FC hosted New York City FC Wednesday.

The two sides shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw - a disappointing result for Toronto after facing a makeshift NYCFC side that didn't start its marquee tandem of Andrea Pirlo and David Villa.

Kwadwo Poku opened the scoring for the visitors in the 16th minute, reminding manager Patrick Vieira of his virtues by curling a deft shot beyond the reach of TFC shot-stopper Clint Irwin.

Canadian international Will Johnson answered for the host, courtesy of a lunging assist from centre-half Josh Williams minutes before the interval.

It was the first time TFC scored a goal this season that didn't involve Sebastian Giovinco, who came into the match leading the league in both goals (eight) and assists (five).

The point moves NYCFC top of the Eastern Conference, vaulting the Montreal Impact, while TFC remains in fourth, two points adrift of first place.
