The Columbus Crew announced Thursday the club has waived on-loan defender Amro Tarek, after acquiring the Egyptian out of Real Betis in February.
Tarek made just one appearance for the Crew, a second-half substitution in a 3-2 win over New York City FC.
"After assessing the first two months of the season, we felt that our strong, veteran defensive depth would continue to make it difficult to provide Amro regular first team minutes," head coach Gregg Berhalter said in a statement. "We wanted to make this move early enough in the year to allow Amro a chance to secure more playing time elsewhere.
"We would like to thank Amro for his time in Columbus and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
