Rapids-Impact Preview

Jermaine Jones has helped keep Colorado's win streak intact in his first two games with the Rapids, and the less-heralded Luis Solignac has also stepped up.

The two will try to send the Rapids to their first four-game win streak in five years in Saturday's visit to the Eastern Conference-leading Montreal Impact.

Jones has two goals and one assist for Colorado (5-2-1), and tallied the opening score in a 3-1 victory against Seattle last Saturday. The midfielder had his Rapids debut delayed by a six-game suspension for making contact with a referee in last year's playoff loss with New England.

"He does it all. He's a real leader, an important piece of what we're trying to do moving forward," coach Pablo Mastroeni said. "I think he's got a great career here in Colorado, and I think these two games exemplify the type of impact that a player of this magnitude can have."

In his first road game for Colorado, Jones will try to help his club win four in a row for the first time since a five-game streak from 2010-11. The Rapids are 1-2-1 on the road but edged Sporting Kansas City 2-1 in their most recent trip April 13.

Solignac will attempt to do his part while adding to his team-best three goals in the past five games. He had no goals and two assists in 15 matches last season with the Rapids.

Colorado is 3-1-0 all-time against the Impact, but lost 1-0 in last season's lone meeting Oct. 10.

Montreal (4-3-1) had won a franchise-best nine in a row at home and its first two games there this season until a 2-0 loss to Toronto FC last Saturday. The Impact nearly suffered another defeat Wednesday at New York City FC, but Dominic Oduro scored in stoppage time to force a 1-all draw.

"You don't stop believing," Oduro said. "It wasn't a pretty game. But getting a point on the road, and scoring in the dying seconds, it feels more like a win, even though we don't get three points. It gives the team confidence before the game against Colorado."

Montreal's scoring output has proved inconsistent so far in 2016. The club totaled six goals in back-to-back wins to open the season, then was shut out in two straight contests before combining for four goals in a pair of victories.

Ignacio Piatti is among the league leaders with four goals but has one in his last six games. Impact star Didier Drogba, who scored against Colorado last season, has one goal and one assist in four games.
