The New York Red Bulls have traded a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft for defender Aurelien Collin from Orlando City.

Collin was one of the Lions' early acquisitions for their inaugural 2015 season, and made 27 appearances after getting sent off in his debut for a challenge on New York City FC's David Villa.

"I'd like to thank Aurelien for everything he's done," Orlando head coach Adrian Heath said of the 30-year-old Frenchman. "He's been a fantastic professional, coming every day and doing everything that you expect of a really good professional like him.

"It's one of them things that happens in sport. They're looking for a center-back and we felt as though this will give us an opportunity to get some salary relief and open another overseas slot for us. I think at this particular time it's probably been beneficial to both parties."

Collin moved to Major League Soccer from Vitoria Setubal in 2011 and went on to represent Sporting Kansas City with great distinction for four seasons. In Harrison, N.J., the angular and uncompromising performer will offer competition to compatriot Ronald Zubar, Karl Ouimette, and Gideon Baah at the back.

"We are excited to add Aurelien to our club," said Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis. "He is an excellent competitor and a veteran player that can strengthen our defense. We feel that his experience can also play an important role in helping us achieve our goals this season."

Jesse Marsch's side next plays Friday night, when FC Dallas visits Red Bull Arena.
