Montreal's Drogba makes 1st start of season vs. arch-rival Toronto
Didier Drogba has been named in the starting lineup for the Montreal Impact's visit of Toronto FC in the 401 Derby on Saturday.
The Ivorian was an incredible hit in Major League Soccer after making his debut in August 2015. He went on to bag 11 goals in just nine starts in the regular season, and after accumulating 60 minutes over two substitute appearances in 2016, Drogba has been called upon to spearhead the Impact attack in his first start.
Drogba has been dealing with knee issues for some time, hence the steady introduction back into football this term. He recently conceded that 90 minutes may be a stretch for him given his current level of fitness, so an hour of action against Toronto FC would be considered a significant positive for the Impact.
There were various reports speculating that the 38-year-old would cut his stay Stateside short to assume a position on the coaching staff or an ambassadorial role at Chelsea. Drogba is held in high esteem at Stamford Bridge after a trophy-laden 14 years over two spells at the club, but his inclusion in Mauro Biello's XI should allay some fears of a premature exit from the Stade Saputo.
Drogba will be supported by Harry Shipp, Ignacio Piatti, and Dominic Oduro in Montreal's forays forward.
