Revs acquire former MLS All-Star Toja
Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution acquired two-time MLS All-Star midfielder Juan Toja through Major League Soccer's Allocation Process on Monday.
The 27-year-old spent the 2007 season and the first half of the 2008 campaign with FC Dallas, where he appeared in 43 regular-season games, scoring eight goals with three assists and being named to the MLS All-Star team during both seasons.
Toja signed with MLS on Aug. 23, and because he is a former league player who was sold to a foreign club, he was available to MLS teams through the Allocation Process, with teams ranked based on recent performance.
"We're pleased to add a player of Juan's skill and experience through the Allocation Process, and we're looking forward to getting Juan in with the team as soon as possible," Revs general manager Michael Burns said. "He's not only played in MLS and is familiar with the league, but he's also been very successful in MLS. We believe he'll be a valuable player for us."
The Colombian was sold to Romania's Steaua Bucuresti by Dallas in 2008 and he spent 18 months with the club, making 51 appearances and totaling three goals and five assists.
Toja then transferred to Aris Thessaloniki in Greece in the summer of 2010 where he appeared in 37 games before leaving the club this summer.
