De Rosario named MLS Player of the Week

New York, NY (Sports Network) - D.C. United midfielder Dwayne de Rosario was named the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 11 on Monday.

The reigning league MVP scored on Wednesday in a 2-0 victory over Colorado and added two more goals on Saturday against Toronto FC as United secured a 3-1 triumph.

De Rosario's first goal of the week opened the scoring for United at RFK Stadium in the 25th minute as he scored on the counter attack.

It took the Canadian international less than one minute to find the net on Saturday as he headed home a free kick to give D.C. the early lead over his former club.

The second tally came in the 43rd minute from a close-range shot following Chris Korb's pass.

De Rosario has netted five goals this season and is now just two away from becoming the seventh player in MLS history with 100 career regular-season goals.

The MLS Player of the Week award is selected each week by the North American Soccer Reporters. The group consists of members of online, print, television, radio media. More information can be found at soccerreporters.com.
