Despite having not appeared in a single major-league spring training game, Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion believes he's ready to start the season.

"I'm going to be ready for Opening Day," Encarnacion told reporters Thursday. "I feel 100 percent and ready to go."

Encarnacion's been slowed this spring after missing time earlier in March due to having a tooth removed. That was followed by an oblique issue. He appeared to be at full health Monday when he homered to left field during a minor-league game.

The 33-year-old is coming off another strong season in which he slashed .277/.372/.557 with 39 home runs, 31 doubles, and 111 RBIs across 146 games.

Toronto begins its season Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.
