Scott Kazmir: Clocked in the 86-89 mph range Monday

Kazmir tossed five innings in a "B game" Monday and was clocked in the 86-89 mph range with his fastball, JP Hoornstra of the LA Daily News reports.

Analysis:

Kazmir maintained after the game that his reduced velocity was "by design". "I don't try to overthrow. We're still building arm strength," Kazmir said. Kazmir retired the final seven hitters (minor leaguers) he faced, so at least he finished strong, but this certainly bears watching.
