Zack Greinke took the mound for the first time Friday since inking a record six-year, $206.5-million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks in December.

Though the session only lasted 10 minutes, there were plenty interested observers in attendance. Former Diamondbacks' great Randy Johnson, chief baseball officer Tony La Russa, and manager Chip Hale all watched from different vantage points.

Pitchers and catchers reported to camp Wednesday, with Greinke beginning by working on first base drills. Later that day, Hale named the ace his Opening Day starter against the Colorado Rockies on April 4.

Greinke spent the last three seasons with the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and finished second in National League Cy Young voting in 2015. In 32 starts, he went 19-3 with a 1.66 ERA and 0.84 WHIP.

Fellow offseason acquisition Shelby Miller also tossed his first bullpen session for Arizona on Friday.
