The Kansas City Royals will head into the future with the same leadership team that helped engineer a World Series championship in 2015, announcing contract extensions Thursday for manager Ned Yost and general manager Dayton Moore.

Yost's new deal will keep him in Kansas City through the 2018 campaign, while terms of Moore's extension weren't disclosed. Prior to Thursday's agreements, both Yost and Moore were set to watch their contracts expire following the 2016 season.

"We are extremely delighted that Ned will remain our manager through at least the 2018 championship season," Moore said. "It's an absolute joy and honor to work alongside him."

In six years as manager, Yost has steered the franchise through a renaissance of sorts, helping the perennial non-contender snap a 29-year playoff drought in 2014 before guiding the club to the second World Series title in team history back in October. Since taking over in 2010, Yost has compiled a 468-469 (.499) record, but has watched his team go 270-216 (.556) over the last three seasons, earning American League pennants in each of the last two years while also leading the league in wins in 2015.

Much of the club's success of late should be attributed to Moore, though, whose shrewd moves - some of which were maligned, at first - established the Royals as an unlikely juggernaut. In addition to the striking success of his drafting and player-development efforts, Moore also brokered trades for James Shields, Johnny Cueto, and Ben Zobrist while adding Kendrys Morales, Alex Rios, and Kris Medlen through free agency - all of whom played significant roles in Kansas City's success over the last two years.

"You can't find an individual with a stronger work ethic or dedication to his craft than Dayton Moore," Royals president Dan Glass said in a statement. "He possesses all of the qualities you look for starting with his leadership, to organizational vision and tireless dedication to the position. Dayton also possesses the ability to get everyone working toward the same common goal, which is to strive daily to make this organization better."
