The New York Yankees and fireballer Aroldis Chapman have avoided arbitration with a one-year, $11.325-million deal, as first reported by FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

The two sides were set to meet in arbitration Feb. 19. Chapman was seeking a $13.1-million salary, while the Yankees countered with $9 million.

Chapman's new deal is $275,000 over the midpoint of those two figures.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi has already declared the left-hander as the club's closer entering the season, providing he doesn't face a suspension for his alleged involvement in a domestic violence case, which is still being investigated by Major League Baseball.

Chapman, who is set to become a free agent this fall, was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds last month for four prospects. The 27-year-old hurler has converted 69 saves over the past two seasons, compiling a 1.80 ERA while striking out 222 players over 120 1/3 innings.

Yankees pitchers and catchers report for spring training Feb. 19.
