Blue Jays won't decide closer until mid-spring

The Toronto Blue Jays have a tough decision to make regarding who the team's closer will be in the foreseeable future, as general manager Ross Atkins addressed with the media on Wednesday.

Atkins told reporters that Toronto doesn't expect to choose a closer until midway though spring training, if not later.

When the Blue Jays traded for right-hander Drew Storen in early January they added an extra player with the ability to close games to their roster, forcing them to decide between their new acquisition or youngster Roberto Osuna, who saved 20 games last season, for the ninth-inning role.

2015 STATISTICS

PLAYER G IP ERA SV SO
Roberto Osuna 68 69.2 2.58 20 75
Drew Storen 58 55 3.44 29 67

Manager John Gibbons was on the same page as Atkins when he spoke at the Blue Jays' annual season-ticket holder event on Feb. 7.

"We don't know that yet," Gibbons said. "Drew Storen has done that and has been very good at it. We have Roberto Osuna, who did a great job for us. We'll see, we'll let that one play out in spring training."
