Evan Gattis enjoyed a successful first season with the Houston Astros in 2015, but he's encountered an injury setback with training camp set to open in just a few weeks.

The slugger underwent surgery to repair a hernia and will be out of action for the next four-to-six weeks, he confirmed to MLB.com on Tuesday.

"Within five days I'm in Philadelphia with Dr. (Bill) Meyers," said Gattis, who lost nearly 20 pounds this winter. "He has an excellent track record with these core-related injuries."

Gattis also has an arbitration hearing scheduled for Feb. 15 to determine his 2016 salary, which could be impacted by the injury. He requested $3.8 million for his services, while the club countered with an offer of $3 million.

The 29-year-old primarily served as the team's designated hitter last season, hitting .246/.285/.463 with 27 homers and 88 RBIs in 153 games.

Houston's position players are expected to report for spring training on Feb. 22, and the club's first regular-season game will be on April 4 against the New York Yankees in the Bronx.
