Report: Indians working to complete deal with Stammen

Eager to improve their bullpen depth as spring training approaches, the Cleveland Indians hope to finalize a deal Monday with free-agent reliever Craig Stammen, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Stammen, who turns 32 next month, was non-tendered by the Washington Nationals after missing the majority of the 2015 campaign following forearm surgery in April. Prior to his injury, however, Stammen had been among the more reliable middle relievers in the majors, crafting a 2.93 ERA with a 50.7 percent ground-ball rate from 2012 through 2014.

Season G ERA GB% HR/9
2012 59 2.34 45% 0.71
2013 55 2.76 59.7% 0.44
2014 49 3.84 48% 0.62
2015 5 0.00 54.5% 0.00

"I feel extremely healthy," Stammen told James Wagner of the Washington Post in December. "I've been throwing and I'm ready to roll. I'm excited to start a new chapter in my baseball career and get ready to pitch and compete for a championship with another team."

Last year, the Indians' bullpen ranked among the best in baseball, leading the American League in fielding independent pitching (3.38) while finishing second in ERA (3.12) and suffering the eighth-fewest meltdowns (63) in the majors.
