Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals, could be the next ballpark to host an NHL outdoor game, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The NHL is involved in discussions to use the venue for its annual Winter Classic or Stadium Series event to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the St. Louis Blues, but the plans have yet to be finalized.

A tentative date of Jan. 2 has been set for the game in order to avoid competing with the NFL, which is slated to play games on New Year's Day.

Toronto is also being discussed as a potential landing spot for an outdoor game in 2017.

Chicago's Wrigley Field, Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park, Boston's Fenway Park, and Washington's Nationals Park have previously been used as venues for Winter Classics.
