Orioles, Britton avoid arbitration with 1-year deal

Tommy Gilligan / USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles and closer Zach Britton avoided arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $6.75-million deal, as first reported by Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The settlement represents a midway point between both parties' filings. The Orioles filed at $5.6 million last month, while Britton countered with $7.9 million.

Britton converted 36 saves last season, posting a 1.92 ERA and 0.99 WHIP across 65 2/3 innings. Since transitioning into a reliever role at the start of the 2014 season, the 28-year-old owns a 1.77 ERA and 141 strikeouts over 142 innings.

Having settled with both Britton and Brian Matusz, the Orioles no longer have any arbitration-eligible players.
